an era ends

It is so long since I have posted but life has been a bit more than hectic, with getting ready for summer school and I have been ill which has lead Christine and I to make the decision we are going to close the shop at the end of March. It has been sad telling everyone as they have arrived for summer school but Christine has wanted to retire and be free to visit her family a little more often, and at the moment I need to retire to deal with my health. But as we have told everyone, I will still do some teaching, I will still continue to make new quilts and I will still sell patterns and there will be hopefully some more time for blogging! Christine tells me she will be my "roadie" so we hope we can still get to see so many of the dear friends we have made in the shop over the past 11+ years.
Summer school is underway at the moment, Karen Cunningham arrived last night with some gorgeous quilts, old and new and the show and tell from the girls was wow! I hope to get some photos from one of the keen photographers, so maybe some show and tell on line in the next few days.
I have been teaching classes with my clamshell quilt, Swan Lake, Bird on a Wire and my new quilt "Little Sparrow". I managed to get it joined in the nick of time, all bar two sides of the sawtooth border.  I love it so I am looking forward to a few weeks of applique to complete it.

  7. Sorry to hear your health is not the best Susan. Hope all goes well with you in the future. So sad to hear that you have to close the shop -I've loved getting your Fabric Club Parcels every couple of months (I'm no.29) - will miss those - it was a great way to keep up my stash of reproductions.

Oh dear, such a big decision to make, but of course your health must come first, like all the previous comments, I too have enjoyed Fabric Club and your blogs, and am currently working on the Cotswolds Quilt and loving it. I visit the shop each time I come up from Melbourne to see my Aunt, and will be up later this month as it is her 60th Wedding anniversary and I was the flower girl !! You will now have so much more leisure time to enjoy some quiet time and stitching for pleasure without working to deadlines. I wish you both all the very best for the future.

  12. I gave up my career due to my health and I can say that was a graceful post. I had a little melt down on my blog. I and I know a few others who would be happy to purchase your patterns. Wishing both of you all the best !

  16. Hi Susan and Christine it was a sad day when Jo came home from summer school and told me you were closing the shop. when she told me the reason why my heart went out to you as I know where you are at as I was in the same position five years ago and life must go on.Now I know why I havent received my news letter for this year. Both of you take care and enjoy your time free from the worry of running a business. hope to see you on your blog often.Cheers and good luck in whatever you do Noeleen number 282
